Title: Director of Intellectual Capital 

Location: Flexible, with preference for Houston TX area 

Summary: 

Dimensional Energy, a leader in the production of sustainable fuels and other hydrocarbons from carbon dioxide, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced Intellectual Capital Professional. As a rapidly growing start-up in the synthetic hydrocarbon sector specializing in catalyst development, sales, and engineering packages, we require an innovative leader who can proactively align our intellectual property strategy with dynamic business objectives. The Director of Intellectual Capital will provide comprehensive intellectual capital (licensing, patent, trade-secret, trademark & copyright) support across all of Dimensional Energy’s activities, with a particular focus on protecting novel catalysts, engineering solutions, and proprietary technologies essential to our competitive edge. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Develop and implement intellectual property strategies that support the company’s growth in catalyst innovation, engineering package offerings, and technology commercialization. 

Coordinate the preparation of invention disclosures for inventions created by inventors who are required to assign their inventions to Dimensional Energy. 

Conduct due diligence on invention disclosures, including market and competitor analysis relevant to catalyst and process engineering advancements. 

Forecast patentability of the disclosed inventions and assess potential for trade secret protection, balancing speed to market and long-term value creation. 

Advise the CEO or their designee on the results of each disclosure’s due diligence and propose the appropriate protection regime, particularly for innovations supporting product differentiation and licensing opportunities. 

Once authorized by the CEO or their designee, coordinate preparation, filing, examination, and maintenance of authorized patent applications with outside counsel, ensuring alignment with the company's global growth strategy. 

Review and approve invoices from outside patent counsel, managing budgets in alignment with start-up resource allocation best practices. 

Collaborate closely with R&D, engineering, and sales teams to identify emerging opportunities and risks in intellectual capital as the company scales. 

Support business development and partnership efforts by evaluating intellectual property implications in licensing, customer agreements, and joint ventures. 

Oversee trademark and copyright protection throughout Dimensional Energy.  

Advise CEO and others on intellectual capital provisions of contracts as requested. 

Coordinate ongoing freedom to operate analyses. 

Participate in due diligence for all investment and M&A transactions. 

Maintain membership in Licensing Executive Society. 

Other responsibilities as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

Masters Degree, preferably in Business, Chemistry, Engineering or other complementary field. 

10+ years professional experience in relevant roles. 

Prior experience working with early stage or venture backed companies preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Strong technical background preferred.

Eligibility to work in the United States. 

Pay and Benefits: 

The salary range for this position is $150,000-200,000 depending on market, skills and experience.
